Is it a Dove or a Pigeon?
The terms Pigeon and Dove can actually be used interchangeably. The birds most people refer to as "Pigeons" are actually a specific species of Dove, also known as the Rock Dove, while when we picture "Doves," most of us imagine the Asian Dove, which is not domesticated, nor capable of finding its way home after a release. It is customary to refer to smaller species as "Doves," while referring to larger species as "Pigeons," but scientifically speaking they are all Doves.
Don't worry, though; our birds bear no resemblance to the "Flying Rats" that can be seen soiling freshly washed cars and statues the world over. The two pictured above our my favorite birds, #(55)48 and #(55)49. They are strong, beautiful and beat me home every time I release them.
What happens after they are released?
The flock circles the area a few times to figure out exactly where they are and then they head home. With proper training, a good release dove will return home every time. The doves are not harmed in any way; rather, the exercise is good for them. We love our birds and go to great lengths to keep them healthy and safe.
How do they know where they are going?
"There has been much research about the Pigeons' renowned navigational abilities. They use a combination of elements to aid in navigation. Such as: the Earth's magnetic field, the position of the Sun, and topographic recognition; where their keen eyesight and superlative memory of topographic details is legendary."

What happens if the weather is bad?
For the safety of our birds we will not fly them in bad weather. The release is at the handler's discretion. If unfavorable conditions exist costs will be refunded minus the fee for the display cage totally no more than $75.
